Position Title: Manager, Communications

Job Overview
IFDA is seeking an experienced, energetic, and creative Communications Manager to assist in developing and implementing communications campaigns and activities for all of IFDA’s programs, events, and initiatives. Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position will ensure IFDA’s brand, voice, and mission are clearly communicated in alignment with IFDA’s organizational goals and strategic priorities. This position requires strict attention to detail and superior writing skills. The position relies heavily on strong, collaborative relationships with staff members and stakeholders.

FLSA Status:  Exempt
Essential Responsibilities: 
  • Write media advisories and other collateral, including talking points, articles, op-eds, and letters to the editor, to drive prominent, high-quality coverage of the foodservice distribution industry.
  • Write, edit, and proofread various materials, including emails, articles, blogs, and reports.
  • Develop and support the production schedule/calendar for all external communications.
  • Curate content, edit, contribute and manage all of IFDA’s electronic newsletters.
  • Manage website content and maintenance.
  • Assist in the production of event scripts and presentations.
  • Monitor media activities and press coverage of IFDA and produce regular reports about coverage.
  • Work with relevant staff and leadership to measure, monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of communications programs in support of key priorities.
  • Maintain awareness of IFDA’s advocacy and policy positions to identify media outreach and educational opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Proofread all of IFDA’s external communications.
  • When needed, support daily social media posts and marketing emails.
  • Assist with IFDA events as needed.
  • Assist with writing, designing, editing and proofing of event materials.
  • Assist with the design and set-up of the IFDA app for each event and participate in communication with app vendor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibility but works with administrative support staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Comprehensive writing/editing and social media skills are required as is an ability to understand complex issues and translate them into effective strategic communications.
  • Accountability, precision, accuracy, creativity, project management, and critical thinking.
  • Ability to generate consensus and work effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Execute day to day tasks and work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks and achieve objectives.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:  Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related discipline.

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, social media, marketing and/or other relevant experience.
  • Experience writing and editing for a variety of media (blog, website, social media, and media outlets).
  • Demonstrated use of various technologies including social media platforms , MS office, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and content management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience using analytic tools such as Google Analytics and Constant Contact to inform and improve campaign performance.
  • Experience with Kentico or a similar CMS preferred.
Working Conditions: 
Moderate noise levels, which are typical in an office environment with computers, printers, faxes, etc.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand 5% of the time, walk 5% of the time, and sit 90% of the time.  The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 10 pounds. 
Minimal overnight travel (up to 5%) by land and/or air.
