On April 26, Rep. Adrian Smith (NE-3) visited Cash-Wa Distributing in Kearney, NE. The Congressman met with Tom Henning, CEO of Cash-Wa and discussed the DRIVE-Safe Act, HR 5358. The bill would create a path for companies to recruit younger drivers into the industry while requiring proper advanced training to ensure safety. The Congressman agreed to become a co-sponsor of the measure, bringing the current total to 16.

An active member of the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA), family-owned Cash-Wa Distributing is the 15th largest broadline foodservice distributor in the country.  Cash-Wa started out in 1934 delivering candy to local neighborhood grocery stores in Kearney, Nebraska and now has over 600 committed employees.

“Facility visits are the best way to help lawmakers understand the challenges faced by foodservice distributors,” said Jon Eisen, IFDA’s senior vice president of government relations. “They can see directly the impact of the driver shortage on distributors and their customers and the importance of supporting the DRIVE-Safe Act.  We appreciate Rep. Smith’s support for this legislation.”
