Efficient Foodservice Response

The Efficient Foodservice Response initiative (EFR) was established in the late 1990s through the cooperation of five sponsoring industry groups. These included the International Foodservice Distributors Association, International Foodservice Manufacturers Association, National Restaurant Association, Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors, and the GS1 US (formerly the Uniform Code Council). When the initial EFR report was published in January 1997, electronic commerce and bar coding were identified as major opportunities that provide significant efficiencies to the foodservice industry.

The information surrounding EFR previously resided on its own website at  "efr-central.com." Relevant information including background on the initiative, an overview on standard product ID and bar coding, and access to numerous publications that were generated through the EFR initiative have been migrated to this location.
