Workgroup Updates
The Traceability Workgroup continued their discussions on product category specific roadmaps to increase adoption of GS1-128 barcodes in the industry. The group has also finalized enhancements to the GDSN Implementation Checklists to include steps from our recently published Foodservice Implementation Guideline for Case-Level Traceability Using GS1 Standards. These checklists will be part of our “Traceability Toolkit,” designed to assist organizations in their traceability implementations and programs.

The GDSN Implementation Workgroup has reviewed the attribute changes for the November 2017 GDSN release. The team agreed that companies need to prepare for the technical aspects of the release, and the workgroup will recommend a timeline for implementation of new attributes, including Child Nutrition. Once approved, these recommendations will be shared on the gs1us.org website.

The Operational Efficiencies Workgroup is finalizing their EDI process map. This will detail the EDI steps specific to foodservice and the ways GS1 Standards can be leveraged at each point. The EDI process map will lay the groundwork for the group’s discussion on areas for process improvement and further operational efficiencies.

The Marketing Workgroup continues to extend invitations to ELC members to share their thoughts on the benefits of participating in the initiative. These testimonials will continue to help the industry communicate the value of membership and industry-wide adoption of GS1 Standards. In addition, the group is also providing feedback on a new case study in development on the benefits of implementing a traceability program

The Joint Foodservice and Retail Grocery Data Quality Workgroup is working to finalize the consumer-facing attributes that are to be included or excluded within a Pillar 3 Attribute Audit of the GS1 US National Data Quality Program. The review process ensures the attributes cover both the foodservice and retail grocery verticals, how to perform an audit on those included attributes and to establish definitions of accurate vs. inaccurate data. During the last meeting, the group continued the discussion on inclusion of the allergen and ingredients attributes along with other cross-vertical attributes. At the conclusion of the review process, the workgroup will begin discussions on how to test/audit these attributes and how accuracy/inaccuracies would be communicated.
